Free admission to the Museum of World Culture
Now, once again it is free for everyone to visit the Museum of World Culture! Free admission, just in time for Christmas.

Margareta Alin, Museum Director
With over five new exhibitions, hundreds of activities, 600 school programmes and 250 conference events in a year, the Museum of World Culture attracts a young and diverse public. Why then does the Museum feel the need to allow free admission?
- Our mission is to be a place in which everyone can feel a sense of ownership. We are convinced the Museum will attract and be accessible to even more visitors if it is free of charge. Spontaneous forums do not occur if people must pay to attend, says Margareta Alin, Museum Director.
Most frequented
The Museum of World Culture is the most frequented museum in Gothenburg, and since the Museum opened its doors four years ago, it has had close to one million visitors. So far this year the Museum has had 210 000 visitors, which is an increase of 18 percent on last year.
Young visitors
The average age of visitors is unusually young for a museum, with 60% of visitors being under the age of 30. Compared with other museums in the Gothenburg region, almost twice as many young people visit the Museum of World Culture.
Major touring exhibitions make their entrance
The Museum of World Culture does not have any permanent exhibitions but instead opens on average about five new exhibitions each year and admission to these will now be free of charge. The Museum will now be establishing itself as a stop for major touring international exhibitions. To these admission fees will be charged.
