30 000 titles, museum director's correspondence through the ages, field diaries and old photos. Much knowledge is accumulated in the World Museum library and archives.
Available to the public
Researchers, students and other interested parties have access to the museum's library and archives. The library moves in the spring of 2009 and will be situated in Ebbe Lieberathsgatan together with the museum's collections and archives - which includes an extensive correspondence, diaries, field notes and photo archives. There is a studyroom in the library, but book-loans are not possible. The library is open during business hours.
More than 30 000 books
The Museum of World Culture library presents over 30 000 titles and 900 journals and yearbooks. The library has been built through donations and purchases from private libraries, such as those of its kind unique Erland Nordenskiöld and Gösta Sandberg libraries, and Walter Kauder. The number of titles is growing, including through exchanges with museums, universities and other institutions, as well as through gifts and purchases.
The content reflects the museum's collections
Most of the books fall under the headings Etnografi, Social and Cultural Anthropology, History and Sociology. A small portion includes travelogues, biographies, bibliographies, manuals and dictionaries. Most extensive are the parts of the library, which covers South and Central America and Indonesia, which reflects the museum's previous areas of interest and the contents of the museum's collections.
The library also has a collection of books printed in 1500 -, 1600 - and 1700 figures, most collected by Erland Nordenskiöld and Gösta Sandberg.
